Personal Development And Wasting Your Time And Energy
August 22, 2010 by selfimprove
Right now, you’re living new day – a day that’s never happened before, a day that will never be repeated. Now is a new moment. And, in each new moment, you have a choice. And on your choice depends your personal development. You have a choice in regard to the thoughts that you are paying attention to just at the present moment. Are those thoughts simply random? Perhaps they’re negative thoughts? Have they anything to do with what you should be doing at this moment in time? Are they positive thoughts (better than negative ones but they’re still just thoughts). The thoughts you’re focused on are distracting you from doing. Don’t waste your energy, ignore your thoughts, but leave space for the flights of fancy to surface – because they are not thoughts, but inspiration and inspiration only comes to the clear mind.
In this new moment, it’s your choice as to your behavior and actions (more commonly reactions) too. And, depending on what you choose, you can quite literally change your life. How much energy have you simply thrown away already today? How much time have you squandered sitting in front of your PC’s screen, staring blankly? How much of your precious and vital energy have you wasted gossiping about and delighting in the misdeeds or misfortune of others? You’ve probably misspent some precious time shuffling you’re “To Do” list until there’s no time left to do! Or how much of your time and energy have you mis-invested in doing things you just should not be doing – like surfing the net for things that have nothing to do with anything important, reading emails that were copied to you to cover someone’s backside, wading through the sordid details of domestic violence that pad out each day’s newspapers? Every moment that you waste is a moment that you will never have again. And what we achieve in life is the sum total of how we spend each precious moment.
At least, in reflecting on some of these searching questions you might begin to realize just how much of your life is misspent on doing things that are holding you back from living the life that you want. But these are energy-wasters that you’re aware off – there’s something even worse going on. How much energy are you wasting and you don’t even know? Because, unless your subconscious mind is immersed in profitable activity in the present moment, it is still happily wandering around your childhood years, thinking that those childhood events are actually happening now – and you’ve no idea whatsoever that that’s what’s actually happening. And this is the waste of energy that divorces us all from the opportunities of the now, from the reality of the now, from the abundance of the now.
So, ask yourself this question. Do you want to change your life? Then ask yourself if what you are doing now, in the context of what you really want out of life, is the very best investment of your energy. If it isn’t, don’t do it.
Want Success? You Need To Get Focused
August 20, 2010 by selfimprove
There are a few steps to take if we want to become successful and make a positive change in our daily life. Some of these steps are about believing in your ability, actually creating a whole new belief system, attracting possibilities and taking action.
But now I will be talking about how to get started. The first step is getting focused.
What do you want?
Often folks struggle answering that question. Or they say what majority will say: I want to be happy, plenty of money, a loving family, more friends etc. And I really understand people say this cause I used to give the same reply.
Now I have two comments to make about this. The first is that, again, this reply makes sense. But it is not specific. You have to be specific in what you need. You got to have specific goals.
The second comment I want to make is that you can’t change everything overnight. So what is most important this minute?
Let me explain this a bit better. You have been asked the question of what it is that you want and answered like many folks would. My next question would be what is most important? What is the biggest priority? Let us say you replied the most important is you want to be happy. Good, let us focus on that. But just being happy is not precise. What would bring you happiness? You think about it and realize that since you have been single for a while, having a boyfriend/girlfriend would make you happy. Great! You decided what is most important to you now and were able to be precise about it. Now it is clear what you need to focus on.
And now? Do I just wait for it to happen? No, things do not just happen. You need to have a plan to achieve this.
Write down your goals
A huge step towards achieving your goals is writing them down. 80% of the people who write down their goals achieve them. And it is only about 5% of all people who really write down their goals. So you have a much greater chance to succeed if you write down what you want to reach.
Actually, do not lay down the pen just yet. Because to really get focused you need to have a plan.
Let us say your goal is to have some more money. You wrote it down but now you need to figure out how to really get that money. Start thinking about what you can do to get more money and write down all your ideas.
Once you decide on a plan stick to it. Create a laser-targeted focus on that which you want and think of it in a positive way. Believe that what you want is already on its way. You just need to receive it.
A word of caution: Even though you have to be precise about your goal, be open to how it will come to you and even when. Avoid things like “I want to be rich in 2 weeks and the money should come from my next business-deal”. It might very well happen, do not get me wrong. But what could happen is, if the money does not come within that time you will be disappointed. This limits your belief and will in the end move you away from your goal.
I encourage people to dream big, but you have to be realistic. Do not expect MGM to call you tomorrow to direct their next movie because you have great videos on Youtube. You probably will not get a Grammy because you sing like Kelly Clarkson in the shower. If directing in Hollywood or winning a Grammy is one of your goals, I encourage you to go for it.
But either way, decide on a plan, work the plan and plan to work and you will get that which you want.
There is much more to say about being successful but this sets you on your way.
Be strong in your belief, only be positive and focus on what it is that you want.
Thank you for your time and expect success!
