What Are The Benefits Of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)?
January 14, 2011 by selfimprove
An increasingly popular tool used in training and mentoring is Neuro Linguistic Programming (commonly known as NLP). NLP is used to help people figure out techniques and ways of achieving what they want in life through working out the steps they need to take to get there. It can be used in your personal life and it is also frequently being used to help organizations to implement change. It offers a system of understanding for how we think, influence and change things for the better.
Some of the main beneficiaries of NLP are businesses looking to implement change. It helps leaders identify areas of weakness that can then be dealt with and overcome. This is done through developing high performance models they can utilize in a range of situations, such as managing staff more effectively and helping them to implement change. NLP business techniques include developing skills of leadership, sales, coaching, presenting and influencing. This helps leaders improve their thought processes to improve their communication and ideas for change.
Another key area where NLP benefits people is in personal relationships. This particularly helps people in terms of dating; especially those men and women who may find talking to the opposite sex in a social situation a little intimidating. It helps them to overcome any nervousness through identifying their barriers so they can improve their skills of engaging with people on a personal and emotional level and thus increase their chances of success when talking to prospective friends or partners.
Personal change is another area linked to relationships that can be helped through NLP. One way it does this is by encouraging people to think differently about their fears to overcome them. It is also commonly used to help people lose weight or stop smoking. It does this through helping people manage their ability to cope with the process by focusing on them on the positive experience of achieving their goals. It ultimately improves mindset and helps people make changes for the better in their lives.
The entertainment industry is another area where the benefits of NLP make a quirky appearance. One way it is used here is by magicians, who use NLP to trick their audiences and thus keep them engaged and entertained. Common techniques for doing this include storytelling, awareness and anchoring. It encourages people to think differently about their relationships and consider ways they may be manipulated by others in order to improve their general awareness and overcome problems, instead putting a big smile on their face.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) – What It Can Do For You
December 12, 2010 by selfimprove
In the 1970’s, Richard Bandler and John Grinder developed and founded a kind of psychotherapy they named neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) at the University of California, Santa Cruz. The idea behind NLP was to better the lives of patients by taking a closer look at positive behaviors employed by that person and the resulting outcomes from those practices. By identifying these behaviors and those of others, people would improve the ways in which they act, their attitude, and communications. NLP takes a self-empowering approach to psychotherapy.
NLP addresses the way people view the world and themselves as well as the way in which they communicate and provides techniques that identify these patterns. Bandler and Grinder stated that this would accommodate the identification of all of the behavioral issues and applicable therapies that psychologists would experience. Since the point of NLP is to allow the therapist and the patient a collaborative strategy to isolate and improve upon negative behavior patterns, the patient is able to identify undesirable behaviors, ask themselves what prior experience led to them, apply helpful strategies, and better their lives.
All of these strategies and identification techniques are founded on the premise that humans use their senses to form a perception of the world around them. Because we form perceptions based on only what our senses tell us, we see only a small fraction of the world at large. Our world is formed by beliefs, values, past experiences, and the senses. This world does not accurately reflect what actually comprises the real world. By observing the specific behaviors and attitudes of someone who excels in some area, NLP attempts to modes other’s behaviors in a similar pattern so that positive behavior results in those who undergo the modeling.
While performing modeling, the successful behaviors and communications that someone utilizes while leading to a positive outcome are identified and broken down into a pattern. This pattern forms the model that is then taught to others in an attempt to get them to change behavioral patterns that are not working. Those modeling their behavior must forget their own beliefs and perceptions and adopt those of the person who they are modeling after. Once they are aware of what works, they then integrate those patterns with their own perceptions and communications.
Self-awareness forms the basis of neuro-linguistic programming. Once a person has the ability to take a step back and see the way in which they communicate and operate and make an honest observation, they can model new, successful behaviors. Self-awareness leads to self-empowerment and that enables someone to help themselves through any situation.

Want Success? You Need To Get Focused
August 20, 2010 by selfimprove
There are a few steps to take if we want to become successful and make a positive change in our daily life. Some of these steps are about believing in your ability, actually creating a whole new belief system, attracting possibilities and taking action.
But now I will be talking about how to get started. The first step is getting focused.
What do you want?
Often folks struggle answering that question. Or they say what majority will say: I want to be happy, plenty of money, a loving family, more friends etc. And I really understand people say this cause I used to give the same reply.
Now I have two comments to make about this. The first is that, again, this reply makes sense. But it is not specific. You have to be specific in what you need. You got to have specific goals.
The second comment I want to make is that you can’t change everything overnight. So what is most important this minute?
Let me explain this a bit better. You have been asked the question of what it is that you want and answered like many folks would. My next question would be what is most important? What is the biggest priority? Let us say you replied the most important is you want to be happy. Good, let us focus on that. But just being happy is not precise. What would bring you happiness? You think about it and realize that since you have been single for a while, having a boyfriend/girlfriend would make you happy. Great! You decided what is most important to you now and were able to be precise about it. Now it is clear what you need to focus on.
And now? Do I just wait for it to happen? No, things do not just happen. You need to have a plan to achieve this.
Write down your goals
A huge step towards achieving your goals is writing them down. 80% of the people who write down their goals achieve them. And it is only about 5% of all people who really write down their goals. So you have a much greater chance to succeed if you write down what you want to reach.
Actually, do not lay down the pen just yet. Because to really get focused you need to have a plan.
Let us say your goal is to have some more money. You wrote it down but now you need to figure out how to really get that money. Start thinking about what you can do to get more money and write down all your ideas.
Once you decide on a plan stick to it. Create a laser-targeted focus on that which you want and think of it in a positive way. Believe that what you want is already on its way. You just need to receive it.
A word of caution: Even though you have to be precise about your goal, be open to how it will come to you and even when. Avoid things like “I want to be rich in 2 weeks and the money should come from my next business-deal”. It might very well happen, do not get me wrong. But what could happen is, if the money does not come within that time you will be disappointed. This limits your belief and will in the end move you away from your goal.
I encourage people to dream big, but you have to be realistic. Do not expect MGM to call you tomorrow to direct their next movie because you have great videos on Youtube. You probably will not get a Grammy because you sing like Kelly Clarkson in the shower. If directing in Hollywood or winning a Grammy is one of your goals, I encourage you to go for it.
But either way, decide on a plan, work the plan and plan to work and you will get that which you want.
There is much more to say about being successful but this sets you on your way.
Be strong in your belief, only be positive and focus on what it is that you want.
Thank you for your time and expect success!

Letting Go of a Relationship Posted By : Elsabe Smit

We do much damage to ourselves by holding on to a relationship that has come to a natural end. Once we understand what the purpose of the relationship is, it becomes much easier to learn from the experience and feel gratitude towards our partners and teachers.
